Oil Tanker and Cargo Ship Collision off UK Coast Leaves One Crew Member Missing

A massive collision occurred between an oil tanker and a cargo ship off the UK coast, leaving one crew member missing and 37 others safe, with one reportedly in hospital. The incident happened around 10 am on Monday, March 10, 2025, approximately 10 nautical miles from Hull, East Yorkshire.

The US-flagged oil tanker, Stena Immaculate, was struck by the Portuguese-registered container ship, Solong, while anchored off the coast. The impact caused multiple explosions and a fire on board the tanker, releasing jet fuel into the environment.

Rescue efforts were swift, with lifeboats, helicopters, and firefighting vessels deployed to the scene. At least 32 people were brought ashore in Grimsby, including crew members who abandoned ship due to the blaze.

Greenpeace has expressed concerns about the potential environmental impact, citing "multiple toxic hazards". The Marine Accident Investigation Branch has sent investigators to the scene to determine the cause of the collision and assess the damage.

The UK Coastguard and emergency services are working together to contain the situation, with the Department for Transport and the coastguard coordinating the respondents
