Mojisola Meranda has been reelected as the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. Meranda, who just resigned on Monday afternoon as Speaker of the House, accepted the role of the deputy speaker pledging to serve the state in good faith.

Following the resignation, the House quickly reconstituted its leadership with new nominations.
David Setonji was reinstated as Deputy Chief Whip, Richard Kasumu was nominated as Deputy Majority Leader, Adewale Temitope as Majority Leader, and Mojeed Fatai as Chief Whip.
Meranda’s tenure as Speaker was short-lived, beginning on January 13, 2025, after Obasa’s impeachment. Obasa faced allegations of financial misconduct, abuse of office, and authoritarian leadership, leading to his removal by 32 out of 40 members. The motion was unanimously adopted by 32 out of 40 members, leading to Obasa’s removal.
Obasa had served as Speaker since 2015, but his tenure was marred by controversies, including accusations of high-handedness and misuse of public funds.
